This book is a companion to HOH1 and HOH2 and it consists of 50 hands, presented as quizzes. Each hand consists of several questions and there is a scoring key so you can have your answers evaluated.

binding: Paperback
list price: $15.95 USD
amazon price: $11.96 USD

This is a light introduction to the game of poker by 11-time World Series of Poker bracelet winner and all-time self promoter Phil Hellmuth.

Hellmuth introduces a simple approach to Limit Hold'em, advocating playing his "Top Ten" hands. He outlines five different animal types (player types) that he uses to illustrate most of the example hands in the book. There is a chapter on No Limit and Pot Limit Hold'em, but it is not the primary focus of the book. Hellmuth superficially discusses a few concepts such as hyperaggressive play and playing suited connectors.

This is a new (July 2007) book on playing No Limit Holdem cash games. Noted Poker Authority Ed Miller and his co-authors, Sunny Mehta and Matt Flynn.

The book is broadly divided into discussions of three concepts, "Plan your hand", REM "Range / Equity / Maximize" and "SPR" (Stack to Pot Ratio).

There are a number of examples which make this book more accessible and practical than Miller's joint effort with David Sklansky, No Limit Hold 'em: Theory and Practice.

This is Dan Harrington's first book, and it was instantly recognized as a classic of poker literature. HOH1, as it's called, covers "Strategic Play," in other words, play in tournaments when you have more than a handful of big blinds left and are not forced to either move all-in or fold. There are two follow-up books in the series, HOH2 (The Endgame) and HOH3 (The Workbook).

This book is the companion to the Little Green Book. It also comes in a box set with The Little Black Book, which is a reprint of his The Real Deal book which the "players" on Celebrity Poker Showdown wave around from time to time. The Little Blue Book consists of 70-odd hands that Phil Gordon played, with commentary. Around 80% of the hands are from tournaments, so if you are primarily a cash game player this may not be exactly what you are looking for.

list price: $24.95 USD
amazon price: $16.47 USD

This is a fairly new (published July 2007) book specifically on beating 1-table sit 'n go tournaments. It's another Two Plus Two Publishing book, by new author Collin Moshman. I found the advice to be very accurate, overall. Moshman includes a lot of observations and rules of thumb which will help you play SNGs to win. The book contains over 150 specific hand examples which are very helpful for learning purposes.

Hold'em Wisdom for all Players

author: Daniel Negreanu
rating:
asin: 1580422101
binding: Paperback
list price: $14.95 USD
amazon price: $10.17 USD

Hold'em Wisdom for All Players is a somewhat disappointing effort by Canada's most famous poker player, Daniel Negreanu. The book consists of 50-odd sections of 3-4 pages where he will talk about a concept and often work in a story or hand from a game that he was involved in. Unfortunately, the title is misleading, as there is not much in the book that a moderately experienced player would find new. Beginning Hold'em Wisdom would have made for a better title, although it might not have sold as many copies.
